Happy Holidays!

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I hope you have all had an ‘amazing’ Christmas?  I had a fantastic Christmas day, I worked alongside the Salvation Army as a volunteer to help make the homeless and the elderly a christmas day to remember.  It was a fantastic experience and to be able to help others is truly rewarding.  Anthony Robbins is right, we should all have a ‘contribution’ goal alongisde our other personal and business goals.  We live in a very materialistic world with a lot of taking and not enough giving.  I shall remember the end of 2008 and take it with me into 2009.

I have done a lot of outdoor cycle rides over Christmas and have even trained!  Yes, its true, weight lifting is back!  I trained LEGS, presses, lunges and curls and yesterday I trained with Dean SHOULDERS, my traps and shoulders are sore today.  We did seated db shoulder press 15kg, 12/10/8, standing db lateral raises, reverse bb shruggs 2okg and seated machine reverse flyes, 3 x12, really good workout and done in 40 mins.  Next up is arms!

I hope most of you are back in the gym this week, hitting the weights and cardio before New Year, I have seen and trained some of you this morning and I think you have all done very well, considering this is the time that the ’saboteurs’ try to break you to join them and to make them not feel guilty for eating all the ‘wrong kind’ of foods!  So keep it up and you’ll find it even easier in the New Year to resist and move on.

Now is the time to sit down, plain piece of paper and pen and write down your goals.

What is it you want to achieve?

What makes you happy?

Lets start there and work through it, so that by the time New Year comes round, you are ready to take ACTION!

Enjoy!!!

The last PUMP class of 2008 was finished yesterday.  Thanks to all my clients and members who have supported the class through 2008.  We will make 2009 a great year together and work even harder on those body parts we want to change or shape!

Today my legs are still sore from Sundays workout, especially my medialis, it must have been from the very strict leg presses!

I trained ARMS today, I started off the opposite to last week and started with biceps, 3 sets of cable curls, incline db supination curls and then into db overhead extensions, all 3 sets worked on a 12/10/8 rep range.  Arms were really pumped up so then went into triceps, cable pushdowns, bench dips with 20 kg plate on lap and then standing db hammer curls, same rep range.  I finished off with db concentration curls, 2 x 15 reps.  Really good session, over in 35 mins.  Got to start growing again!!!

Decided to work out this cold and train today.  I sky + ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and was inspired to do some training - Legs and Shoulders.  I went to our Paignton gym and worked out, there a few different machines there and I wanted to finsish off my workout on our ‘crunch’ machine for the abs.  I superset leg press with alternate leg lunges with db 12.5kg, legs were really shaking after a couple of sets and I kept the incline leg press real strict with depth and keeping the knees in a strict parallel position, then it was lying leg curls 16 reps for a couple of sets.  I just wanted to get blood moving through the body and to get a bit of a ’sweat on’.  For shoulders I used the seated shoulder press and for 20 reps and did 16 reps superset with db raises.  One set of 30 reps of seated calf raises and one set for standing calf raises and ab crunches.  All done in 40 mins.  I am sure training has done me a world of good and will help me sleep well!

Tomorrow is the last PUMP class of the year and we start back on Monday 5th Jan 09.

The weekend - catch up.

So, back to training it is although I have been set back with a cold but I have managed to train arms this week.  It was a good session and biceps and triceps felt it through the days to come.  I also have managed to train chest and back with Dean this week.  Incline db flyes, I pushed the 15kg for 12 unassisted reps without a spot and that felt really good, incline db flyes and pushups.  For back it was wide grip chins, bent over reverse grip rows and seated row, all in 35 mins.  Twice this week I have been outdoor sprinting on the beach and also have done some speed hill work, with lunges and squats thrown in.  A good week for me and I can say its great to be back training again and having fun with the weights, just letting my body engage back in naturally.

My clients have all been working hard whilst I am away, their excuses of ‘I’m busy getting ready for Christmas’ have been very few and that’s encouraging.  I hope you all can keep your focus over the festive period, after all, it shouldn’t be too hard, the gym is only closed Christmas Day/boxing day and New Years Eve/Day.  Not bad really, 30 min workouts can be achieved and the family won’t miss you at all!

Have a lovely last weekend before Christmas and I will try to get my holiday pics up before next weekend.

Back in the UK!

What a great trip!  New York was fantastic.  I ran every morning in Central Park, running, steps and hill sprints before hitting the diner for oatmeal and egg whites (with bacon).  I took part in the Brooklyn Bridge Bootcamp Workout run by Ariane Hunt, it was fantastic, the workout was an hour and it was at 9am in the sun on a clear day.  We sprinted across Brooklyn Bridge, did resistance work with out body weight and with bands and ran up and down with all the tourists, amazing and another great way to see Manhattan from a different angle.  I visited Giants Stadium for the 3rd time to watch the Philadelphia Eagles V Giants which was fantastic, had to put out rucksacks in the security office so got a ride on the buggy around the grounds, NYPD police gave us some amazing handwarmers and got to see field level where all the players enter and exit.  Fantastic!  Trained at CRUNCH gym in Times Square which was great and I loved the lying leg curl machine by Icarian, it was great, superb angle for hitting the hamstrings.  So shopping and food and rest if you believe me and one extra day in NY, cos we booked to come home on the Tuesday instead of the Monday, so that was a bonus, more shopping and training!  Oh and course, how could I forget, Ice-Skating in Central Park at 10pm and on cue it snowed!  Absolutely amazing, could not ask for a better time!

Got to go to work now, will write again later on.  Happy Training!

Busy Bee!

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

I have been very busy with working as site-manager over the last 3 weeks as SJ was away on annual leave.  Ihave had a virus and been unable to train, but have been busy with work and clients.

I am off on annual leave now, New York for runs in Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge Bootcamp Workout and visiting Crunch Gym, NFL (Eagles v Giants) food and shopping!  Then a break in London.

So to all my clients and readers, take care of your health, wrap up warm, train hard and eat healthy, it is not long to go before you can have those little indulgences, but don’t start on them too soon!  Try adding in some interval cardio to help speed up your metabolic rate and treat soem weight sessions in a circuit style.

We have just bought the ‘Olympia and Arnold Classic 2008′ and its great to look at Figure girls, already feeling inspired again for 2009!  Can’t wait for the flight to New York, to start setting goals, both personal and business!

All articles are now up on my site for you all to read.
